Ukrainian Drones Strike Fuel Oil Terminal, Military Assets in Krasnodar

According to reports on Russian social media, Ukrainian drones struck the Novorossiysk fuel oil terminal at Russia’s largest seaport in the southern region of Krasnodar Krai overnight on Sept. 8-9. Initially, the city’s mayor, Andrey Kravchenko, writing on Telegram, said that drone debris had struck industrial sites and nearby residential buildings, but that there were no casualties. Later, Veniamin Kondratyev, regional head of the Krasnodar Krai, said that four people, including a child, were killed and 29 others were injured in the drone strike. The terminal, part of the largest Russian seaport, transships almost 20 million tons of fuel products each year and has been the subject of several attacks by Ukrainian forces since the start of the 2022 full-scale Russian invasion. In a later, separate report, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces (USF), claimed that the attack carried out by Ukrainian special forces had destroyed several missile boats located in the port, a Su-33 fighter and a Mi-8 helicopter in Anapa, 50 kilometers (31 miles) northwest of the port, and two air defense radar complexes in the Gelendzhik area, 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast.
