Ukraine must not be sacrificed in a great-power deal between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has warned, accusing Moscow of seeking to carve up Europe. Speaking to TVP World at the Freedom Games conference in Łódź, Yatsenyuk described the prospect of a summit involving the three leaders without Ukraine as “a sham talk”. He warned that such a meeting risked repeating the great-power bargains of the 1938 Munich Agreement and the 1945 Yalta Conference. “He wants to partition Europe,” Yatsenyuk said of Putin. Although Moscow has signalled a willingness to resume talks with Ukrainian representatives, Yatsenyuk accused the Kremlin of using diplomacy to buy time. He insisted that neither Ukraine’s future nor Europe’s security could be negotiated without those directly affected. Diesel deal draws criticism Yatsenyuk also criticised Trump’s decision to permit Russian diesel imports and waive fresh sanctions under a law named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham. The move has drawn criticism from lawmakers in both US parties, who argue that it eases pressure on Moscow as its invasion of Ukraine continues. Calling the deal “unprecedented”, Yatsenyuk rejected Trump’s suggestion that Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries were chiefly responsible for rising US fuel prices. He pointed instead to the war in Iran and questioned whether Russian diesel shipments could significantly lower prices. Other Topics of Interest Ukraine Received Only 24 US Patriots in 90 Days Volodymyr Zelensky revealed Ukraine received only 24 US Patriot missiles in 90 days, despite needing roughly 350 monthly against ballistic strikes. Ukraine faces winter missile shortages Yatsenyuk warned that Ukraine faces an immediate threat as Russia intensifies strikes on energy infrastructure ahead of winter. He estimated that Moscow could launch 70 to 120 ballistic missiles a month and said Kyiv needed at least 120 interceptors monthly to protect its cities. “And as of now, we have practically zero in our stockpiles,” he said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also appealed to European allies for 300 Patriot interceptor missiles ahead of the cold season. Despite his criticism of Washington’s Russia policy, Yatsenyuk urged Kyiv to preserve bipartisan support in the United States. American intelligence, Patriot missiles and other equipment purchased with European funds remain crucial to Ukraine’s defence. “We need Americans in, but not out,” he said.
