The company described TANЕCO as one of Russia’s largest oil refining complexes, with a designed capacity of more than 16 million metric tons of crude oil per year. The refinery produces diesel and aviation fuel, as well as gasoline and other petroleum products, making it an important part of Russia’s energy infrastructure. Oil infrastructure under fire The Nizhnekamsk refinery was not the only Russian energy facility targeted overnight. Drones reportedly struck the Taman-Neft oil terminal in Krasnodar Krai and the Taman 500-kilovolt power substation, according to RBC-Ukraine. The attacks come as Ukraine has increasingly focused its long-range drone campaign on Russia’s oil industry, military infrastructure and logistics, seeking to disrupt the machinery supporting Moscow’s war against Ukraine. Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) recently said strikes inside Russia had become the second-most concerning issue for Russians, citing their impact on the economy and military logistics in occupied Ukrainian territory.
