Ukraine Names Ivan Fedorov Head of Recovery Agency

Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers appointed Ivan Fedorov as head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development on Friday, Sept. 4, while approving his dismissal as governor of the frontline Zaporizhzhia Region. According to RBC-Ukraine, citing Cabinet decisions, Fedorov will replace Serhiy Sukhomlyn, who was dismissed as head of the agency.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. “Ivan Serhiyovych Fedorov has been appointed head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine,” Taras Melnychuk, the Cabinet’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, said. The Cabinet also approved Fedorov’s dismissal as head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration. The formal removal of regional governors requires a presidential decree. Fedorov previously said President Volodymyr Zelensky had offered him the position during a report marking 1,000 days of his work as regional governor. He described the new role as “extremely difficult,” saying Russia would continue attacking Ukraine’s strategic facilities and that the government needed to protect and rapidly restore them. Fedorov said his move to the agency would not mean abandoning the Zaporizhzhia Region. He plans to remain a co-chair of the regional Defense Council and continue working on issues affecting the frontline region. The government also dismissed Mykola Boyko as first deputy head of the Restoration Agency and Anna Sdobnova as deputy head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory responsible for digital development and transformation. Fedorov served as mayor of Melitopol from December 2020. Russian forces abducted him after occupying the city in March 2022, holding him for several days before his release. Zelensky appointed Fedorov head of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration in February 2024. The Restoration Agency coordinates the rebuilding and protection of roads, bridges, housing, energy facilities and other critical infrastructure damaged during Russia’s full-scale invasion.
