Ukraine Hits Russian Chemical Plants and Taganrog Drone Sites, Zelensky Says

A target was also struck in the Black Sea. In Taganrog, SBU fighters struck an FPV drone production facility, UAV storage warehouses, a petroleum storage tank, a radar station, and a Pantsir-S2 complex.” Zelensky added that earlier Ukrainian strikes this week resulted in the destruction of a Russian Su-33 combat aircraft, two Mi-8 transport helicopters across the Krasnodar and Rostov regions, and an oil facility in Perm. SBU ‘Alpha’ operation targets drone infrastructure in Taganrog The strikes in Taganrog, Rostov region, were conducted early Saturday morning by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in coordination with other branches of the Defense Forces, the intelligence agency reported via Ukrinform. A storage tank holding fuel and lubricants A P-18 “Terek” mobile radar station The SBU stated that fires were recorded across all targeted installations. “The destruction of manufacturing and storage capacities for UAVs and FPV drones diminishes the Russian military’s capacity to deploy them against Ukraine,” the SBU stated. “This is a direct response to Russia’s massive attacks, during which the enemy launches strike drones to terrorize civilians and damage our country’s critical infrastructure.” Chemical plants in Perm and Samara regions The presidential confirmation follows earlier reports of drone strikes targeting major chemical facilities in Russia on Friday and Saturday. In the Samara region, overnight drone strikes on Saturday ignited a fire at the KuibyshevAzot plant in Tolyatti. The facility is a major domestic supplier of polymer materials, technical yarn, and tire cord, accounting for approximately half of Russia’s caprolactam production and 75% of its tire cord output. In the Perm region, roughly 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, drones targeted the Uralchem-operated Azot plant in Berezniki on Friday, Sept. 11. The Berezniki facility produces ammonium nitrate, urea, and nitric acid, which serve as precursors in the industrial manufacture of military explosives.
