The ministry reported that Ukrainian forces intercepted 14 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 12 Kalibr cruise missiles, 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, eight Iskander-K cruise missiles, seven Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles and one Zircon anti-ship missile. Another 1,104 reconnaissance drones and 809 Russian Lancet loitering munitions were intercepted, according to the ministry. The interceptions involved fighter and army aviation, surface-to-air missile units, mobile fire groups, drone operators and electronic warfare systems. The ministry said Russian forces repeatedly adjusted their aerial tactics throughout October, changing flight routes and altitudes while combining attack drones, decoys and large-scale missile strikes to complicate Ukrainian interception efforts. Ballistic missiles remained a particular challenge, with Moscow continuing to use them against civilian infrastructure. The ministry stressed that Ukrainian forces require additional effective systems capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. Russia has also increasingly deployed faster, jet-powered drones, forcing Ukraine to adapt its defenses through new interception technologies and tactics. Despite these challenges, the Defense Ministry said Ukrainian forces continue strengthening the country’s multilayered air defense network, integrating new technologies and improving methods for detecting and neutralizing aerial threats.
