UK Charity Commission reopens Save One Life probe amid Hamas funding concerns

SEPTEMBER 7, 2026 15:27Updated: SEPTEMBER 7, 2026 16:00The UK’s Charity Commission has reopened its investigation into Save One Life, following concerns that some of its Gaza-destined funding has worked its way to Hamas.A spokesperson for the charity watchdog told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that it takes seriously concerns raised about the potential misuse of any charity and its funds.It noted that a regulatory compliance case was opened into Save One Life last year, but was subsequently closed after an inspection of the charity’s premises and review of the charity’s policies found no evidence to support the concerns raised.However, the spokesperson told the Post that since then, it has identified matters “relating to due diligence and monitoring the end use of funds in Gaza which require further examination and, as such, we have re-opened our case and are re-engaging with the charity’s trustees.”Save One Life claims to be focused on supporting the people of Gaza by providing humanitarian aid.Humanitarian aid waits to be delivered to Gaza, at a logistics site run by the Egyptian Red Crescent outside Arish, Egypt, August 11, 2025. In its most recent financial year, it registered a total income of £1,162,336 and spent a total of £596,330 on charitable activities and £50,570 on fundraising.Save One Life referred to police over concerns funds were being diverted to HamasLast year, it was referred to counter-terror police due to concerns that funds were being diverted to Hamas officials.The new inquiry was opened after an anonymous complainant told the Charity Commission that “Save One Life UK is sending money to Gaza via an unknown broker in Turkey. This could provide material support for a proscribed terrorist group like Hamas.”Responding to the new concerns about its practices, Save One Life said it “categorically rejects any allegation that Save One Life has funded, supported or worked with Hamas or any other proscribed organization.”Save One Life: 'All funds raised by Save One Life are used solely for legitimate charitable purposes'In a statement on Saturday, the charity said: “All funds raised by Save One Life are used solely for legitimate charitable purposes and in accordance with our governing document.”“We have consistently cooperated fully and in good faith with the Charity Commission, providing all relevant documentation concerning our governance, financial oversight and distribution processes. Following its regulatory review, the matter was closed in March 2026. We understand that the same complainant has since raised substantially the same allegations again, including matters that have already been considered and addressed by the Commission.”“Save One Life remains fully committed to transparency, robust governance, regulatory compliance and its charitable mission of providing vital humanitarian assistance to people in need in Gaza.”Follow us on Google
