The 23 designated individuals and entities face asset freezes, travel bans, and business restrictions, while eight vessels are subject to shipping sanctions. The blacklisted group ranges from Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officers and occupation police chiefs implicated in torturing civilians in southern Ukraine, to former “deputy governors” involved in child deportations, according to a UK government document. The sanctions also target pro-Kremlin propagandists, including an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the former de facto president of South Ossetia, and several Georgian nationals running disinformation networks. Economically, the package targets several vessels recently acquired by Russia to bypass Western sanctions and maintain gas export revenues. “We are targeting both the revenues that help sustain Russia’s aggression and perpetrators of horrendous crimes against Ukrainian civilians, including children.
