Ubuntu 26.10 Delivers Nice I/O Performance Wins Over Ubuntu 26.04 On AMD EPYC

While Ubuntu 26.10 is not a Long-Term Support (LTS) release and thus will see limited enterprise deployments compared to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, for those not after that long-term deployment support and preferring to live more on the leading-edge, Ubuntu 26.10 is delivering some nice performance gains on current 5th Gen AMD EPYC "Turin" hardware. Going along with my other Ubuntu 26.10 benchmarking on different systems, I recently ran benchmarks to see how AMD EPYC 9005 series is performing on Ubuntu 26.10 relative to the current Ubuntu 26.04 LTS release. This round of testing was done with a Gigabyte MZ33-AR1 server platform running AMD openSIL + Coreboot via Dasharo. Installed was the 64-core AMD EPYC 9655P Turin processor, 12 x 64GB DDR5-4800 memory, and a 3.2TB Micron 7450 MAX NVMe SSD. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS was tested out-of-the-box with its Linux 7.0 kernel, GCC 15.2, and other default packages. With Ubuntu 26.10 in its near final form is the Linux 7.3 kernel, GCC 15.3 compiler, and other updated software components over the past six months. Let's see what upgrading from Ubuntu 26.04 LTS to Ubuntu 26.10 means for high-end AMD EPYC server performance. For those wondering about Ubuntu 26.10 amd64v3 performance on AMD EPYC, I have some tests there for a separate article.
