And Hearn remained firm that any change in the terms would come at a financial cost – as he looked to keep the fight on home soil. Sign up for the Sport newsletter Thank you! So Fury’s latest revelation of an incoming announcement suggests that a compromise in AJ’s contract had been reached and the bout will head across the pond. He said: “Everything’s going well. I’ve got some big news that will be dropped very, very soon. All is good in the hood. “Big fight on the horizon. It’s the one you’ve all been waiting for! About to be announced imminently, so stay tuned.” November 14 was initially a suggested date – but the UFC have already booked MSG for an event of their own – so the week after is now the frontrunner. UFC boss Dana White has remained adamant he will be involved in the all-Brit heavyweight bout and doubled down when pressed last weekend. White said: “We did the television deal and the venue deal. “Listen, this f***ing saga, we’ll see how this whole thing plays out. I mean, they either want to fight or they don’t. “To make a fight, two guys have to want to fight. Period. End of story. “Contracts and this and that, there’s a lot of f***ing money for grabs in this fight. “Do you want to fight or do you not want to fight? I don’t give a s*** one way or the other.” Hearn was so adamant about keeping the bout in Britain that he threatened to walk away from the fight if a deal could not be reached. He told The Punch Podcast: “The other day they wrote to us and said, ‘just to let you know, we would like to announce the fight for New York’. There might even be a situation where they go for it and do announce it and you will probably see me coming out quite quickly and say, ‘no fight’. “I promise you, if they announce that fight without an agreement in place to change the venue, there will be no fight and we ain’t bluffing. We feel really strongly that this fight should be in the UK. “We kind of want to say, ‘Well, if you want do it in America, you have got to pay us all of this money to change.’ “Because we are not really bothered about the money – we want it in England. “So, we want to make it so much money that they just say, ‘you know what, let’s just do it in England’, that is our dream scenario.” But he admitted in an interview with FightHype that he was likely to lose the battle to keep the fight in Britain. Hearn said: “We signed for this fight in the UK. We are desperate to deliver this fight for UK fans. “However, everybody else wants to fight in America. Turki Alalshikh, Netflix. I can’t speak on behalf of Tyson Fury. I don’t see him kicking up a fuss, right? “Madison Square Garden. So, they’re telling us, ‘This is the place that’s going to do the biggest numbers. This is the place it will be the biggest fight.’ “I disagree. But at the end of the day, we’ll fight and we’ll fight and we’ll fight to a point where either they breach the contract or we come to an agreement.” Hearn continued: “Now, these people are our partners and our friends as well. So, it’s very difficult because we wouldn’t have signed the agreement in its form if it was in America. “So, what we can’t do is just change it like that and go, ‘Oh, sorry about that. We’re just going to change.’ That doesn’t work like that. “So, there’s got to be a discussion. There’s got to be a process. We also want the fight to deliver for everybody. “But I, as a Brit and as a British promoter and as someone that’s pushed for this fight for so long, I just feel like it’s a shame to take it anywhere else other than Britain. “So we’re doing everything we can. And AJ, these guys, they’re all trying ‘AJ, come on, America. Oh, after the Jake Paul fight.’ “He’s like, ‘No, no, guys, this is this is a British fight.’ So like, I don’t know if we’re going to win that race, but we’re doing everything we can for British fight fans. “And I’m becoming very unpopular in that circle by doing so because they think I should just do it, but I’m saying no, right?” A press conference – which will face off the rivals for the first time EVER – is planned for the end of August.
