Taking to Instagram, the 38-year-old shared a poster of himself and AJ with the backdrop of New York City behind them. Sign up for the Sport newsletter Thank you! Seemingly preempting the backlash over the venue, Fury captioned the post: “What a place NYC, and what a venue MSG, and what a fight Fury vs AJ, the land of opportunity. “What a weekend away for the lads on the piss in NYC. Iconic! Not long now guys.” This being said, Joshua was not tagged in Fury’s Instagram post and he is yet to announce the deal on his side, while likewise there has been no announcement from his promoter Matchroom boxing. SunSport previously reported how Fury and AJ, 36, had taken a massive step forwards in agreeing terms for the fight. The pair had signed contracts earlier this year, but former Team GB Olympian Joshua’s terms stipulated the fight MUST take place in the UK. However, organisers Netflix and Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh pushed for a Stateside clash, which left Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn negotiating revisions to allow the fight to take place in America. Meanwhile, AJ was awaiting the final payment of his July 25 over Kristian Prenga in Jeddah. But Hearn has now confirmed Joshua has been paid in full which allowed Fury talks to progress, and that they received the terms for the fight to happen in the US three days ago. He said: “Yeah, we’re all good from the last fight and we’re all moving forward amicably. We don’t want to do the fight in the US, but we also understand it has to work for everybody. AJ’s original contract had stipulated the fight had to take place in the UK Credit: Getty “And at the same time we’re basically being told ‘we only want to do the fight in the US’ – which we don’t agree with, we don’t understand – but we’ve been banging our head against the wall on that for the last two months. “So like I said, we’ve set out our position, mainly in concern to the tax situation that will deplete his net purse by going to America, which can be rectified and I think they’re happy to do that. “Everything else is, there’s no abnormal requests. It’s up to them. There’s nothing else to discuss. There’s nothing, there’s not one of those terms that was mentioned in the ‘leaked’ email that that is in the addendum. “They’re all stuff related to the fight. If they want it there they’ll sign it. If not, we’ll be very happy and we’ll do it in the UK.” The target date for the fight is on November 20th, but Fury’s announcement did not include a definitive date for the clash. Hearn added: “We will need to make a decision this week. They’ve replied, they have our terms. It’s up to them. “We don’t want to do the fight in the US. But if they really want it in the US, these are our terms. There’s nothing unreasonable in there, to be honest with you.” Comment now
