Tyler Guyton focused on "coming to work and getting better" amid Cowboys left tackle competition

Published July 30, 2026 08:24 AM When the Cowboys drafted Tyler Guyton in the first round of the 2024 draft, they probably didn’t envision him competing with a seventh-round pick from the same class entering his third NFL season. That’s where Guyton and the Cowboys find themselves, however. Guyton and Nathan Thomas are vying for the left tackle job in training camp this summer. Guyton’s health — he missed seven games last season — has helped to open the door to Thomas, but the team’s also looking for more consistency when he is on the field and Guyton said his focus has been in that direction in the opening days of camp.“I mean, it’s the same as every day: coming to work and getting better, to try and get one percent better every day,” Guyton said, via the team’s website. The Cowboys drafted Guyton where they did because they thought highly of his ability and those feelings probably haven’t disappeared after two years with the team. Opening the spot up to competition makes it clear that they want to see more, however, and Guyton will have to show some growth in the near future in order to ensure he remains in the team’s plans.
