Two workers killed, five injured after church roof collapses in Tamil Nadu-A.P. border

Rescue operations under way after the roof slab of an under-construction church collapsed in Vellore district on the Tamil Nadu border, 24 km from Chittoor, on Thursday evening. | Photo Credit: HANDOUT Two construction workers were crushed to death, and five others were injured, one of them critically, when a newly-laid concrete roof slab of an under-construction church collapsed on the Tamil Nadu border in Vellore district, near Mandikrishnapuram Colony in Gudipala mandal, 24 km from here, on Thursday evening.The police and Fire department teams from Chittoor and Gudipala rushed to the spot to assist the Tamil Nadu police in the rescue operation. The sudden structural collapse reportedly trapped around five to six construction workers under the heavy debris.​A group of about two dozen workers, mostly from Ranipet and Katpadi in Tamil Nadu, were reportedly engaged in the slab work. The support framework allegedly collapsed after the concrete casting was fully completed, burying the workers under the rubble.Chittoor MLA Gurajala Jagan Mohan prompted his team to rush to the spot and coordinate with the Tamil Nadu officials in the rescue operation.
