Emergency services including a rescue helicopter rushed to the rural village of Manzanedo de Valdueza on Saturday after 'fierce storms in the hills triggered a large flow of stones, mud and sludge', the local mayor said. Pictures from the scene showed how stones and mud had washed through the village, which is surrounded by mountainous and forested terrain. Two women, who emergency services said were 'approximately 60 and 80 years old respectively', are confirmed to have died in the landslide.Two babies were treated for bruises, while a third person - a man in his 80s - has been found unharmed after earlier being reported missing. The extreme weather conditions also caused damage in Bouzas, a village neighbouring Manzanedo de Valdueza. Seven regions in northern and central regions of Spain were under a yellow alert for storms and heavy rain on Sunday. The downpour comes during a summer in which the Spanish have grappled with some of the most catastrophic wildfires in their history. Lisa Fryett passed away after being found in critical condition on a mountainside near Bedar, where she had been staying with her partner on holiday. The wildfire was Spain's third deadliest ever and claimed the lives of another four Brits, who were found dead in a burnt-out car while trying to flee. A 93-year-old British woman caught up in the blaze also died of her injuries in hospital three days later.Elsewhere, wildfires have continued to rage across Europe this week as hundreds were forced to evacuate their homes in search of safety. An inferno is rapidly spreading across the Hautes Fagnes central park in eastern Belgium, near the border of Germany. Hundreds have also been evacuated from a beach resort in northern Greece and from a village in southwest France, and one person was killed in Croatia. The fire in Belgium has already ravaged at least 16 square kilometres (six square miles) of forest since breaking out on Friday, authorities said.Firefighters from across Belgium and Germany have been called in to help tackle the blaze, which ballooned in size on Saturday night.
