Two Spain stars have stadiums named after them and given bizarre reward for winning World Cup

FABIAN RUIZ and Spain team-mate Gavi were spoiled by their hometown as they named TWO stadiums after the World Cup winning pair. In their honour, the current Marismas and San Sebastian stadiums have officially be renamed “Fabian Ruiz” and “Pablo Paez Gavira ‘Gavi'”. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! Ruiz began playing football at Los Palacios CF, while Gavi was six when he joined the youth teams at La Liara Balompie. The two teams play their home matches at the Marismas and San Sebastian stadiums, respectively. But they are not the only World Cup winners to see their efforts rewarded in the city just south of Seville. Former Sevilla star and 2010 World Cup champion Jesus Navas already had the sports complex put in his namesake by the City Council. In a grand ceremony on Tuesday, Ruiz and Gavi were also given their weight in tomatoes as per the local tradition. The champs stepped on to scales to make sure they got the exact weight correct for the juicy red prize – reportedly around 140kg. The 40-year-old will also be immortalised alongside Ruiz and Gavi after unveiling a model of a monument that the council will install on Juan Jose Vaquero Avenue.
