Two people killed in fireball crash after BMW ploughs into lamppost in Rotherham

The white BMW 3 Series swerved off the East Bawtry Road carriageway ataround 6.43pm on Saturday. A man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been released on police bail. The fiery wreckage can be seen smoking in the middle of the road with the vehicle appearing to have struck a lamppost in the central reservation. Members of the public fought alongside firefighters, paramedics and police to save the people inside. But both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification of those involved has not yet taken place. Jake Richards MP, for Rother Valley, said: ‘I am aware of a serious incident on Bawtry road that occurred last night. ‘At this stage, the respective authorities are investigating and ensuring the area is safe.
