Twins place RHP Cole Sands (elbow) on injured list

Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images The Minnesota Twins placed right-hander Cole Sands on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right elbow strain, just two days after activating him from the IL for a right forearm strain. Sands appeared Sunday for the first time in about three months and promptly gave up five runs on three hits and a walk in one-third inning of relief in an 11-8 Minnesota victory. His latest IL move is retroactive to Monday. Sands, 29, has a 14-11 record and 4.42 ERA across 170 career games (six starts) for the Twins from 2022-26. He's pitched just 12 innings across 13 appearances this season. The Twins recalled right-hander Jack Anderson from Triple-A St. Paul to take Sands' place on the active roster. Anderson, 26, has appeared in three games for Minnesota this season, striking out four over 3 1/3 innings without yielding a run. He was selected off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on July 11. --Field Level Media
