David Lynch's genre-bending mystery Twin Peaks has inspired countless horror movies and TV shows since it was first released in 1990, with the small town thriller genre going from strength to strength ever since. Shows that mix familiar everyday life with a feeling of dread can be even more terrifying than some of the most famous horror movies of all time, as they highlight the fact that we all know of insular communities in which everyone has a secret. The sci-fi horror show From makes this premise even more disturbing by refusing to allow its lead characters to leave. This results in a claustrophobic survival horror that shares Twin Peaks' unsettling atmosphere. The show stars Lost's Harold Perrineau as Boyd Stevens, the mayor of a town that traps its new residents as they look for a way to escape both the town and its nightmarish nocturnal monsters. From has been described as "the best horror TV show of the decade" and a must-watch for fans of both Stephen King's horror books and Twin Peaks. With the story far from over, there is plenty of time to discover From and start exploring the many fan theories surrounding the mysterious series. The First 3 Seasons Of From Are Now Streaming On Netflix Credit: Chris Reardon/MGM+ Netflix has just added three seasons of From to its library, where it immediately became one of the most-watched series on the platform in the US, reaching second place in the streaming charts. This is major news for the show, especially with Halloween around the corner, as From is the perfect mix of horror, sci-fi, and character-driven storytelling. Recent small town mysteries like Netflix's sea monster miniseries Below have failed to impress fans, with Below being criticized for being overstuffed with ideas. On the other hand, From benefits from tight storytelling and a mystery that continues to build on itself. The first three seasons of From Season Year Rotten Tomatoes critics' rating Rotten Tomatoes audience rating 1 2022 96% 87% 2 2023 93% 80% 3 2024 100% 73% 4 2026 96% 63% Until recently, From was available on MGM+ and the most recent and fourth season is currently still only available on this platform. Still, bringing it to Netflix is certain to introduce the hidden gem series to a much wider audience who may be surprised that they did not watch From sooner. The series has arrived at the perfect time. While horror TV shows once had a reputation for less-then-stellar acting and cheap shocks, the recent masterpiece horror TV shows have included some phenomenal acting performances, and Harold Perrineau is one of the best reasons to watch From. Perrineau's acting career has been incredibly varied, from stealing the show as Mercutio in Baz Luhrmann's modernized Romeo + Juliet to giving an intense and emotional performance playing a frantic father looking for his son in Lost. From repeats Lost in many ways, but adds an extra horror dimension and puts Perrineau center stage, while supporting actor Ricky He won a Leo Award for the multi-award-nominated show. It is possible that the fourth season of From will make it to Netflix eventually, but for now, there are 30 episodes already there to watch. There's Time To Catch Up On From Before Its Final Season Arrives Many promising TV shows are canceled before their time, but the show looks set to stand out here too, as From has been renewed for a fifth and final season, which is expected to premiere on MGM+ in 2027. This will allow viewers to get a payoff in the form of a proper ending, though there may still be a few mysteries left open to interpretation. As two of From's executive producers, Jake Bender and Jeff Pinkner, also worked on Lost and both shows were inspired by the famously mind-bending Twin Peaks, this is a definite possibility. The final season of From is currently being filmed, but there is plenty of time to catch up on the story before it airs. With 40 episodes already released, 30 of which are on Netflix, From is the ideal horror binge, and avoids the mistakes made in other mystery box series by not outstaying its welcome and becoming overlong. The four seasons of From have layered mystery upon mystery, resulting in many fan theories, so people looking to join the discussion before answers arrive should enter the show's world sooner rather than later.
