Even if you start with the Resident Evil series, there's a lot to explore, not to mention the copious saleshappening for just about every holiday and occasion. But you don't see a Twin Peaks homage every day. Many studios try and fail to capture the magic of the David Lynch classic series, but this one looks like it succeeded. Live on Steam now, you can find a game that marries multiple horror conventions, and the results are staggeringly impressive. Plus, you can try it for free right out of the gate. Silver Pines Is In Good Company On October 8, studio Wych Elm and publisher Team17 will unveil Silver Pines to the world, which aims to impress fans of the survival horror genre. While the game already has a following on Steam, it's also available for other PC platforms, as well as PS5, Switch 1/2, and Xbox Series X/S. It's also Steam Deck verified, which is great news because it looks like it'll fit the platform perfectly. Here's the full description of what you're in for, which is said to be a heavy combination of Twin Peaks and Resident Evil: "Silver Pines is a survival horror metroidvania set in small town America. Fight nightmarish terrors and solve puzzles, while carefully managing your scarce resources as you uncover the mysteries that could hold the key to redemption. Private investigator Red Walker finds himself in Silver Pines, a place half-abandoned, half-forgotten, in the middle of nowhere on a job to track down Eddie Velvet. A musician who has vanished. As the case begins to reveal a dark past, Walker soon slips into a strange and nightmarish descent beyond his control." The game is described as a "love letter to classic survival horror," as you'll need to either fend off or flee from the horrors of Silver Pines, while managing resources. Interestingly, this is not a linear game. It's a Metroidvania, with locked doors and alternate paths to take, and the ability to find clues and locate alternative ways to traverse the town. Try Silver Pines Out Now For Free The action is also super gritty, with multiple gross monster types to fight, as well as "hulking bosses." Again, resource management is important, and the studio mentions it multiple times, which could appeal to hardcore Resident Evil players and survival horror enthusiasts alike. It's even more interesting given its pedigree: this is Wych Elm Games' first project, made remotely across multiple European countries. Beyond Twin Peaks and Resident Evil, The X-Files and Silent Hill were cited as direct influences. It seems like the game is made in good company for horror fans, especially with the haunting rotoscoped animation style. Silver Pines has a free demo, which you can play now. So far, it has an "overwhelmingly positive" rating at the time of publication, which bodes well for the finished version. While the name doesn't stand out, it looks like a fantastic get for Steam and horror lovers everywhere. Brand Valve Original Release Date September 12, 2003
