‘Twilight Of the Dead’ Gets a Bit More Real After Wrapping Filming

Almost two years since it was first re-announced, George A. Romero’s Twilight Of the Dead wrapped has recently wrapped filming. Per Deadline, the Kentucky-based production concluded in September. For fans, this news has been a long time coming, as the film’s meant to conclude the filmmaker’s long-running zombie series. After 1968’s Night of the Living Dead, new installments came out whenever Romero and company were able to make them, and he’d co-written a treatment for Twilight with screenwriter Paolo Zelati. But after Romero’s death from lung cancer in 2017, the project went unfinished. Flashforward to 2021, his widow Suzanne Romero announced that Twilight Of the Dead would be revived. Zelati was joined by Joe Knetter and Robert L. Lucas to finish the script, and directing duties have been handed over to Doran and Yoav Paz of Plan A. Along with Romero’s estate, another familiar face involved with the production is Greg Nicotero, longtime special effects makeup veteran who previously worked on Land of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and Diary of the Dead. Canonically, this new film takes place after Land, with “the last vestiges of humanity trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat.” Kate Beckinsale (Underworld) and Betty Gabriel (Jack Ryan) play the currently unnamed leads, with a supporting cast that includes Cooper Barnes, new actor Abigail London, and Kurt Deimer. There’s currently no release window for Twilight of the Dead, but at least you horror fans know it’ll soon exist for them to see. All that’s left is to wait for more news. Want more io9 news?
