Turkish minister says 1.4 million Syrians returned home since 2016

Over the past seven years, around 1.4 million Syrians have returned to their homeland from Türkiye, according to Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi. This development is part of a broader trend of shifting refugee dynamics as conflict and economic conditions in Syria have changed. Türkiye, which hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees, continues to manage its substantial foreign national population, including over 2.26 million Syrians under temporary protection. The return of so many refugees indicates a possible stabilization in Syria, but it also highlights the ongoing challenges in managing such large populations in neighboring countries.
