Tulane names Zeon Chriss-Gremillion starting quarterback for season opener

Tulane named redshirt senior Zeon Chriss-Gremillion its starting quarterback Monday for the season opener Sept. 5 against Duke, a source with knowledge of the decision told On3. Chriss-Gremillion, a Houston and former Louisiana transfer, won the job in preseason camp over redshirt junior Kadin Semonza. Chriss-Gremillion has played in 29 career games with 13 starts, giving him experience that helped him get the nod. The 6-foot-3 and 220-pound dual-threat has completed 64% of his passes for 2,263 yards with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions across four seasons. He added another 992 yards and 10 scores on the ground. Tulane entered preseason practice with an ongoing quarterback competition before the first season under head coach Will Hall. Chriss-Gremillion and Semonza separated themselves from freshman Trace Johnson midway through camp, and the staff gave them an increased number of first-team reps over the past week before making a decision. Semonza transferred to Tulane after earning 2024 MAC Freshman of the Year honors at Ball State. He completed 64.6% of his passes for 2,904 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions that season. Semonza did not play during his first year with the Green Wave. He stayed after former Tulane coach Jon Sumrall left for Florida. After winning the American Athletic Conference title and reaching the College Football Playoff last season, Tulane chose Hall as Sumrall’s replacement. Hall, a former Tulane offensive coordinator, was fired as the head coach at Southern Miss in 2024. He rejoined the Green Wave last year as an offensive assistant and will begin his head coaching tenure against Duke.
