Carlson, a former Fox News host-turned-conservative podcaster, said in his latest show that Trump should be impeached if there’s any talk of using nuclear weapons. He noted that while he was “strongly opposed” to the first two impeachment attempts against Trump, he would support an effort to remove him if he talked about using weapons of mass destruction against Iran.“I think the whole thing was absurd. I believe in stability. I think elected leaders should serve out their terms. I don’t hate Trump personally,” he said of the first two impeachment attempts. “With all of that said, the second any president actively considers first use of nuclear weapons, that person should be removed from office immediately. Immediately,” Carlson continued. “Because that’s got to be the red line. Destroying all of humanity in a nuclear strike.”“Why isn’t there an attempt to remove him from office like immediately?” Carlson said. “Anyone who would even tolerate that kind of talk from any of his subordinates or employees is, by definition, unfit. That’s the total destruction of the world.”Trump has not publicly said that the U.S. is considering a nuclear strike against Iran. But The Hill reported that earlier this month, the undersecretary of defense for policy said that officials are looking to give the president and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth “credible, rational nuclear options.”Carlson claimed, without citing sources, that administration officials were considering nuclear options. He also highlighted a tweet from former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who also claimed the White House was looking into nuclear strikes. The White House told USA Today in a statement that Greene “has no idea what she is talking about.”Carlson emphasized that any world leader who floats using nuclear weapons is unfit for office. “Any leader of any country who suggests first use of nuclear weapons has forfeited his right to lead. He has to be removed immediately. I think that’s just a fair standard,” Carlson said.Lauren Sforza covers national politics as a content supervisor and reporter for Advance Local, focusing on the Trump administration, elections and members of Congress.
