Trump’s favorite CNN star delivers ‘worst-ever’ polling news to him

Donald Trump’s favorite CNN journalist, Harry Enten, revealed his “historically awful” polling numbers on inflation Tuesday, noting that the president’s approval rating is “lower than the Titanic.” Trump’s net approval on inflation has held steady at about 50 points underwater. Reuters/Ipsos polling put it at -52 in May, -48 in June and -50 in both July and August. “These numbers are historically awful and they’ve been historically awful for a long period of time. You just don’t ever see numbers like this,” Enten said Tuesday. Enten, CNN’s Chief Data Analyst, rattled off the numbers by month and then exclaimed: “I mean, it’s lower than the Titanic, for goodness sake.” Trump had recorded the 11 worst individual presidential polls on inflation “of all time” since April. He is also the first U.S. president to record a net inflation rating 50 points underwater, Enten said. Inflation was a key issue during the 2024 presidential race, and saw voters side with Trump over White House opponent Kamala Harris. Enten described the change since then as a 60-point swing against Trump. “There is no sign of improvement on this issue of inflation.The issue that got Donald Trump reelected to the White House and is still the number one issue in the minds of the American electorate,” Enten said. “He’s stuck 50 points underwater in a place that no other president has ever been before.” Trump recently deemed Enten his favorite CNN reporter. Following years of declaring the network as “fake news,” he took a moment last month to laud its chief data analyst on Truth Social. “The best person on CNN Is Pollster Harry Enten, because he was willing to show that Donald J. Trump is six times more popular than Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, or any other President — He’s got Credibility (Don’t fire him!)” Trump wrote. That is, Donald Trump is still the sun on which the planets of the GOP revolve around. You could see it quite well here,” he said. Trump also shared a clip of Enten discussing the effect of his endorsement of South Carolina Senator Darline Graham, who won a special election to complete the term of her late brother, Lindsey Graham. Enten cited data from the prediction market Kalshi showing that Graham, who had never held office before, had 80 percent odds of winning the primary after Trump’s endorsement. The data analyst noted she had a 14 percent chance before Trump’s endorsement, and cited the president as the reason behind the change. “There’s a reason why this 14 percent became 80 percent and that is because when it comes to Senate primaries, Donald Trump’s record is magnificent,” he said.
