DONALD Trump has vowed to enact revenge on Iran “many times over” following the deaths of three US soldiers over the weekend. It comes as the US president launched fresh strikes across the country for the 10th night running – before Tehran hit back with its own retaliatory attacks. US Central Command (Centcom) said its latest assault hit Iranian “military command centres, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and air defense systems”. At least 17 US personnel have now been killed in the Iran war since its start on February 28. Despite tit-for-tat strikes seemingly leaving any peace deal further from reality each day, mediators are reportedly working to help pass through a new one. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was now locked in a “full-scale war” with the US. But negotiators are understood to have passed Iran a proposal that would offer a new 10-day ceasefire. On Monday, Iran’s interior minister landed in Pakistan for two days of talks with the country’s prime minister. Meanwhile, chaos in the Strait of Hormuz has continued, with the Houthi rebels – an Iran-backed proxy – vowing to establish its own naval blockade against Saudi Arabia. The terror group claim the move is a response to Saudi strikes on a Houthi-controlled airport in Yemen’s capital last week. In a chilling sign the conflict may be set to escalate, extra F-16 and F-35 fighter jets from European bases, as well as more aerial refuelling tankers, have been deployed to the region. As the now-collapsed peace deal was crumbling last week, Trump received a briefing from military chiefs on options to intensify the war. They included capturing Kharg Island, where 90 per cent of Iran’s oil exports pass through, or bombing Iranian nuclear facilities at Pickaxe Mountain. Comment now
