"If I were running a state or a town, if I was a mayor or governor, I would want as many data centres as I can because they throw off tremendous amounts of money," he said.Data centres pay for themselves, according to TrumpTrump also pushed back on one of the most common concerns around data centres, that they strain the power grid. According to him, the newer facilities he's approved actually generate their own electricity rather than draining local energy supplies. "The new ones that I approved, they all create their own energy. He framed the choice in fairly blunt terms for local governments deciding whether to greenlight new data centres. "If you want to get rich as a state or as a town, and if you want to pay lower taxes, if you want to create tremendous wealth, if you want your house to be more valuable, you're going to want a data centre," he said. "If you want to go through poverty, crime, and squalor, I would say don't approve data centres." He also warned that towns turning down data centres today might regret it later, once neighbouring areas that did approve them start seeing the economic benefits roll in.No fear of AI going rogue, just a race to winTrump also pointed to progress in medicine as proof of AI's upside, saying breakthroughs are already happening faster than anyone expected. "I've seen some results that are incredible medically.
