President Donald Trump declared the Alaska Senate election to be “over” on Thursday.“The vote totals for the Fake Dan Sullivan, plus the other ‘slug’ that the Dems put on the Ballot, should be immediately given to the REAL Dan Sullivan, and the Election is over – He easily wins,” Trump wrote Thursday morning on Truth Social. “There is no other fair solution!”As of Thursday morning, former Rep. Mary Peltola, the Democratic nominee, held less than a 1-point lead over Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) with 75% of the vote counted. Alaska accepts mail ballots for up to 15 days after Election Day, plus it must tabulate ranked choice votes, meaning it will likely be the final race to be called in the 2026 midterm cycle. Alaska’s unique electoral system pits four candidates against one another on the general election ballot, regardless of party affiliation. Voters can rank their preferences. If Peltola holds on to win, Democrats will pick up a 55th Senate seat. The Mississippi Senate race has also not been called yet, with Democratic nominee Scott Colom leading Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) by one-tenth of a point with 96% of the votes counted.Trump had made the Alaska race a focus of his final midterm messaging push, arguing that the “fake” Dan J. Sullivan, a retired school teacher with no prior political experience, was a Democratic plant aimed at exploiting the state’s ranked choice voting system. Both Dan J. Sullivan and Peltola had previously claimed that they had not colluded to place the former on the ballot and ostensibly pull support away from the incumbent, but a New York Times report published one week before the election indicated that Peltola staffers did indeed comb the state last year in search of potential candidates who had the same first and last name as Sen. Dan Sullivan.TRUMP ‘NOT AT ALL’ WORRIED ABOUT IMPEACHMENT DESPITE DEMOCRATS RETAKING CONGRESSThe Trump administration filed a lawsuit in October seeking to block the certification of the Alaska results if Sen. Dan Sullivan loses the election, but that suit was tossed by a magistrate judge last week. The administration plans to appeal the decision. As of Thursday morning, Dan J. Sullivan had earned 1.68% of the vote, while Gerald Heikes, another Republican candidate on the ballot, had pulled 2.27%.
