Trump says US may request Europe to release diesel from emergency stockpiles

US President Donald Trump indicated that Washington could request European countries to release diesel from their emergency stockpiles, amid the war on Iran's impact on global fuel supplies. "We may ask them to do that," Trump told reporters on Thursday. Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said European states should do so "immediately". "Our European partners should accelerate delivery on their existing commitments and make additional supplies immediately available to address ongoing disruptions," he wrote in a post on X. "American farmers, truckers, and businesses should not be left carrying the burden of a global diesel shortage. America is doing its part. We look to our allies to match their commitments with action."
