US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Russia had agreed to immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel to the American and global marketplace after what Trump described as a “highly successful” discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump added that Russia would then deliver 3 million tonnes of diesel fuel within a short period, depending on the condition of its refineries, and would supply another 500,000 tonnes in November and 1 million tonnes shortly after. The US Treasury Department said it was issuing a temporary licence for Russian diesel to flow to global markets. The move comes as diesel prices, up 70 percent since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran, hover near record highs ahead of the November midterm elections.
