Trump says he froze attacks on Iran at request of mediators

Donald Trump gestures during a press conference on the day of a NATO leaders' summit in Ankara, Turkey, on July 8. Stoyan Nenov/Reuters US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he decided to freeze attacks on Iran at the request of mediating countries, in order to give negotiations with Iran a chance. Speaking to Israel’s Channel 12, Trump said that the US is holding in-depth talks with Iran, stressing that if these fail, Washington will return to carrying out its large-scale military operation. He explained that he responded to the mediator request not to launch military operations to allow space for diplomacy, expressing his belief that Iran wants to reach an agreement. The US president confirmed that the time-frame given for negotiations will not be long, noting that the window of opportunity to achieve a breakthrough in the talks is short, and that the future of US action will be determined based on the results of the negotiations.
