Trump picks team for new 'Super Intelligence Force' to lead the charge on AI

Donald Trump has formed a powerful new White House 'Super Intelligence Force' as he doubles down on America's AI race despite warnings from industry insiders that the technology could spiral beyond human control. The president unveiled the task force on Sunday, putting some of his administration's most powerful officials in charge of ensuring the US stays ahead in the battle for AI supremacy. The dramatic move comes after whistleblowers working at behemoth AI companies warned that increasingly advanced systems could ultimately pose a threat to humanity.Anthropic researchers have warned that advanced AI could theoretically 'kill all humans,' while CEO Dario Amodei has cautioned that increasingly autonomous agents could become powerful enough to overwhelm large parts of the internet. But Trump has continued to throw his weight behind the technology, arguing that America cannot afford to surrender its lead to rivals such as China. He has even ordered his administration to abandon the term 'artificial intelligence' and instead refer to it as 'super intelligence' in government communications in a calculated move before the midterms in November.Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead the new task force alongside Federal Trade Commission chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon chief technology officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor. The team will report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and coordinate the government's dealings with AI companies, consumers, religious organizations and other groups. President Donald Trump announced the formation of a new Super Intelligence Force on Sunday, and picked its members who will lead the charge on AI in AmericaTrump made the announcement on Truth Social this morning, adding that the task force was created in response to his White House Accord on Super Intelligence that he hosted last week.He summoned the world's most powerful technology executives to the White House last Tuesday, including Mark Zuckerberg, Jensen Huang and Dario Amodei. 'We’re going to be signing a document today at about 5 o’clock, renaming artificial intelligence, because it’s not artificial, we all agree on that,' Trump said.'We're going to be renaming it super intelligence,' Trump continued.Trump's full embrace of AI, or SI, comes while Democrats like Senator Bernie Sanders are calling for a halt to further developing the technology over fears it will put Americans out of work or at a disadvantage.White House officials have stressed the importance of US AI labs pushing ahead with development despite those concerns, noting American technologists must lead the AI boom to prevent China or other rivals from dominating the space. Trump made the announcement standing next to leaders from US AI companies who attended the White House session, including Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Meta ’s Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, OpenAI ’s Greg Brockman, X’s Elon Musk, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.Earlier in the day, the administration rolled out an AI-powered website, America.gov, designed to help citizens access federal information and services, such as filling out passport applications online and enrolling in Medicaid.
