US President Donald Trump announced Friday, Oct. 9, that he had selected Katie Zacharia, a senior communications adviser at the company behind his Truth Social platform, as the new White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt, who stepped down in August. A California native, Zacharia previously served as a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security and worked on Trump’s presidential campaigns, including efforts targeting battleground states. She currently serves as a senior communications adviser at Trump Media & Technology Group, which operates Truth Social, the platform Trump frequently uses to announce major government decisions. In announcing her selection, Trump credited Zacharia with helping his campaigns in the seven swing states he won in the 2024 presidential election. He described her as a loyal supporter from the beginning and expressed confidence that she would succeed in her new position. Trump also said Zacharia was respected by journalists and would work effectively with the media, the American public and his administration. From Truth Social to the White House Zacharia, an attorney and conservative political commentator, has appeared on Fox News and Newsmax and previously held communications roles in Republican politics.
