President Donald Trump and his Republicans are about to get “trounced” in Tuesday’s midterm elections, former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci has predicted. Guesting on CNBC’s Squawk Box Europe, Scaramucci, 62, who served for just 11 days in Trump’s first term before being fired, said the U.S. is currently at a crossroads with the two main parties offering “two different visions of where the country should go.” “I think the president’s going to get trounced, by the way, and I think he knows he’s going to get trounced,” the former financier turned podcaster and pundit said.“You have one vote. You have one customer relations survey that you can do on the American president – that’s at the midterms, and people are not happy,” Scaramucci added.“He promised affordability, he promised no more ‘forever wars,’ he promised transparency on the Epstein files. He didn’t deliver on any of that stuff, and so there’s a lot of people inside MAGA that are now also breaking from him.”Anthony Scaramucci says he expects President Donald Trump and his Republican candidates to get 'trounced' during the midterm elections (CNBC)Most polling going into Election Day suggests the Democrats will win back the House of Representatives and perhaps the Senate too amid widespread voter unhappiness about the Iran war and the high cost of living.Trump has spent the last month touring the red states and giving rallies in the hope of encouraging turnout but has continued to dismiss the issues voters tell pollsters they care most about, spending Monday at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool discussing its renovation rather than offering a convincing closing argument for the still-undecided. Scaramucci, whose famously short stint in Trump’s service was recently eclipsed by that of Katie Zachariah, looked ahead to what will happen if the much-talked-about “blue wave” does materialize. “If he gets trounced here, there will be bicameral investigations that will be the main show because there’s a lot of things that’s going on in the administration that the Democrats are going to want to uncover,” he said.“The Republicans, in my mind, I think there’ll be a great intellectual civil war. The Republicans are going to have to reconcile where do they want to go. It’s no longer the party of Ronald Reagan, certainly not the party of George W Bush, but is it the party of Donald Trump after he leaves the stage?”Trump spent the eve of the midterms unveiling his makeover of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, rather than offering a substantial closing message to undecided voters (AFP/Getty)Scaramucci said he foresaw only a gradual break with Trump over time, however, explaining: “There’ll be DNA elements of MAGA in the next presidential candidate for sure, because looming large over that presidential candidate will be Donald Trump and several hundred million dollars of his PAC money, and so they’re not going to want to get too far away from him in 2028. “So there will be elements of MAGA, but I also think there’ll be a civil war in that party.”Asked his view of the Iran stand-off, the former adviser said: “I don’t see any alignment between the Iranians, the Israelis, and the Americans for a potential negotiated solution right now.“If the Americans are going to ramp up the military strikes alongside of the Israelis... I don’t really understand how that’s going to necessarily help the region either.”The U.S. launched new airstrikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island late Monday, which Trump did not address when he spoke to Sean Hannity on Fox News shortly after, discussing other potential targets and quibbling over whether or not the conflict really amounted to a war as there had been no physical fighting. “Wars are very bad for business,” Scaramucci warned. “They’re not great for the stock market. So I would like to have a negotiated settlement, but there’s nothing on the matrix where you see the concentric circles lining up, where these three groups would say, ‘OK, that’s a deal that all three of us are willing to accept.’”
