It’s a terrible situation,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, per the New York Post.The president said, “Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Sullivan declared a mistrial in the case on Friday afternoon after jurors told him that they could not reach a unanimous verdict. Trump went on to say, “But you’ll find out what the price to pay is. There’ll be a price. It’s going to be a mental institution or jail or something. But I guess they’re going to go through another trial. It’s too bad.”Clancy, 36, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the case.She admitted to strangling her three children, Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023.Clancy had entered an insanity defense, the Post reported, claiming she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings.“It’s on television so much,” Trump said of the Clancy case, which has garnered wide attention and controversy. “It’s hard not to follow it.”The Post reported Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz as saying that that his office has not yet decided whether to retry Clancy for the murders.“No decisions will be made today,” Cruz told reporters outside the courthouse.Jurors had deliberated for more than 36 hours over seven days before the mistrial was declared.
