Trucks gone wild! VinFast launches VF Wild EREV pickup

With more than 250 km (~155 miles) of battery-only range, genuine off-road capability, and a range extending ICE motor that pushes total range well past 1,000 km (~620 miles), VinFast’s new VF Wild is shaping up to be an interesting entry in the electrified truck race. First shown as an all-electric concept back in 2024, the production version of the new VF Wild pickup is still motivated by an electric motor putting out 160 kW (~215 hp) and 280 Nm (~205 lb-ft.) of torque drawing power from a relatively modest 46.4 kWh LFP battery pack (compared to the monster 205 kWh battery in GM’s electric trucks, anyway). That setup is good enough to get VF Wild drivers about 250 km away (NEDC) from where they started before the ICE generator kicks in to keep the party going. But, crucially, that’s all it does. VinFast is quick to point out that its internal combustion engine is purely a range-extender, and that the vehicle is driven solely by its electric motors for a driving experience that’s much closer to a “pure” EV than it is to a conventional hybrid. Information on the ICE is limited, but Vietnamese-language Dantri is reporting a 1.5L petrol (gas) engine under the hood. Shooting for the stars VF Wild, after dark; by VinFast. The cold, hard numbers on this thing are interesting. At 5,376 mm long, 2,069 mm wide, and 1,873 mm tall with a 3,258-mm wheelbase, the VF Wild seems to be taking aim at industry heavyweights like the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, but those can’t be had as EREV’s, making me think of the old adage that goes “aim for the moon, end up among the stars.” It remains to be seen how well the new VF Wild will do in the global market, but it seems worth noting that VinGroup (VIC.VN) is profitable. The company had a record 2025 posting more than $12.8 billion in revenue and nearly $430 million in net (not gross) profits – and, unlike some pretty notable others in the industry, they’re currently expanding their global operations. No word yet on any plans to bring the VF Wild to North America – if and when it ever does arrive, however, it will probably be priced right. The starting price for the new VinFast EREV pickup is “just” 860 million dong, which works out to ~33,000USD as I type this. Inside, the truck features a flat floor, a 10″ touchscreen infotainment system in the center console spot, and reclining rear seats. Like other VinFast models (and the Saturn Ion, and first-gen Toyota Prius), the VF Wild lacks an instrument cluster in front of the driver.
