Map of Lucena in Quezon province LUCENA CITY — A truck helper was killed and another was injured after a loaded dump truck shifted from a self-loading truck and pinned them in a freak accident here on Saturday evening (July 18), police said. In a report released Sunday, the Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) said an Isuzu self-loading truck transporting a dump truck on its flatbed was traveling along the Eco-Tourism Road in Barangay Ibabang Talim at around 6 p.m. The vehicle was being driven by a man identified only by the alias “Christian.” Article continues after this advertisement Two truck helpers, identified only as “John” and “Rene,” were seated on the headboard of the self-loading truck, between the cab and the loaded dump truck. While the vehicle was in motion, the helpers noticed that the upper portion of the loaded dump truck was about to hit overhead power lines and alerted the driver. Police said that after the driver stopped the vehicle, the locking mechanisms and chains securing the dump truck unexpectedly gave way, causing the cargo to lurch forward. The shifting dump truck pinned the two helpers’ legs against the truck’s cab, leaving both men seriously injured. The victims were rushed to the Quezon Medical Center, where John later died while undergoing treatment. Rene remains confined in the hospital. Police said the truck owner and the victims’ families were working toward an amicable settlement. /apl Your subscription could not be saved. Please try again. Your subscription has been successful.
