NewsUK News TRIBUTES have poured in for a “much-loved” great-grandfather who died after being hit by a car just five days after his birthday. Charlie Watt was rushed to hospital with serious injuries on August 22 at around 4.30pm. The pedestrian was hit in Corby, Northamptonshire, and died the next day. A 46-year-old man from Corby was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on bail. Charlie’s family said: “He was a truly special, one-of-a-kind character, if you met Charlie, you definitely wouldn’t forget him. He had a wonderful sense of humour, and many stories to tell. “There is an enormous emptiness where he should be. Charlie had just turned 84 on Monday, August 17 and sadly passed away not long after his birthday on August 23, which would have been his late wife’s birthday, they are now together again. “Charlie’s life was full of love, memories and plenty of laughter, and even at 84 he was still a big kid. His stories will be told for generations to come; he was simply magic. “We are so thankful for everybody’s love and support over this difficult time.” Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would still like to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage which captured any part of the collision with the blue Vauxhall Astra.
