In Reply In their Letter, Drs Kosaka and Kami suggest that herpes zoster vaccination in patients with early symptomatic Alzheimer disease may have affected the results obtained in the Valacyclovir Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease (VALAD) trial. In the Discussion section of our article, we highlighted the epidemiological evidence showing that herpes zoster (shingles) vaccination is associated with lower risk of dementia.
