Transfusion Reactions After Tick Bites May Be a New Alpha-Gal Manifestation
Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), a tick bite−related condition causing red meat allergy through IgE antibody production, may increase risk of allergic reactions to certain blood products, according to a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine. The authors suggest this supports a new clinical entity: transfusion-related AGS (TRAGS), potentially caused by AGS IgE antibodies and transfused B antigens cross-reacting.
