Sign in to your TheGamer account In January 2025, Transformers: Reactivate, the first new triple-A Transformers game since 2011, was canceled two years after its big Game Awards reveal. Fast forward two more years to today, and a previously unseen trailer for Reactivate has leaked, showing just how far along the Transformers game was when it got canned. Transformers: Reactivate Could Have Been Something Special transformers-reactivate-screenshot.jpg After almost two years of radio silence, the trailer has appeared out of nowhere, shared by Nem - TFR Archives on Twitter. The trailer is prefaced with a message from Nem noting that they believe, due to when it was created, the trailer was an investment pitch put together after Tencent pulled funding on the project as Splash Damage sought out another publisher. Reactivate was canceled three months after the leaked trailer was made. It shows a very different Reactivate from the one Transformers fans thought they were going to get. The game was originally supposed to be a free-to-play multiplayer title. However, this new trailer shows off a campaign with a story that can be played through alone, or in online co-op. Autobots And Decepticons Working Together via Hasbro/Robosen Optimus Prime - voiced, but seemingly not by the late Peter Cullen - stars in the trailer, revealing that the Autobots must fight back against the Legion to save the galaxy. Optimus does so alongside Bumblebee and Ironhide, and we’re even shown them recruiting Megatron to their cause, who also appears to have been a playable character. The trailer doesn’t only show CGI and cinematics, but also gameplay, and it all looks pretty great. If the trailer really was created as part of a pitch to find a new publisher, then it’s unclear why it didn’t work. Reactivate looks like it could have been something special, and now that trailer is out there, Transformers fans are mourning a game that technically never even existed. Although the trailer was apparently put together around 18 months into this particular version of the game’s development, the leaker reveals that a documentary covering the entire seven-year stretch during which Reactivate was being worked on in some way is currently in the works. With Reactivate canceled, the wait for the first triple-A Transformers game since 2014 continues. Fans of the series ate incredibly well during the seven years prior to that, with six games released between 2007 and 2014, many of which are still highly regarded. That’s why, when Xbox asked which games its users wanted to be added to its backwards compatibility program, the Transformers games from the Xbox 360 era dominated the vote.
