The musician, 26, has spoken openly about her sexuality and coming out journey, having realised she identified as bisexual during lockdown before embracing the ‘lesbian’ label. Cat has since chronicled her experiences of living as a queer woman through her songwriting, releasing songs such as Free. She’s currently dating makeup artist and influencer Sarah New, having hard-launched their relationship on TikTok almost a year ago. But while the lovebirds often share videos from their travels and dates online, Cat’s latest post detailed a baffling incident. Taking to social media, she recalled being at ‘a straight club’, declaring it something she will ‘never be doing again’. Next minute, I finish going to the toilet, this girl comes in and goes into the cubicle that I was going into,’ she began. ‘She looks at me, and she goes, “Are you bisexual?”‘ Join Metro's LGBTQ+ community on WhatsApp With thousands of members from all over the world, our vibrant LGBTQ+ WhatsApp channel is a hub for all the latest news and important issues that face the LGBTQ+ community. Cat pulled a perplexed expression in the video as she recounted her reply to the woman being: ‘No, I’m gay.’ ‘Now, listen to what she said to me now,’ Cat continued. ‘She said, “Oh, you can’t be in here with all this fanny!” ‘I had to clutch all of my belongings, and I said, “Oh?!” Did I hear that correctly?’ ‘Respectfully, no one was looking at you,’ she added. ‘Nobody was even beginning to even look at you. And I’m not gonna preface that by saying “because I’m in a loving relationship.” ‘Cause even if I wasn’t, no one would ever be looking at you,’ she fired out. Cat publicly confirmed her relationship with girlfriend Sarah New last September (Picture: Max Cisotti/Dave Benett/Getty Images for Champagne Lanson) ‘I’m in the toilet! Oh, god. Have some grace. Have some decorum,’ she ranted to her followers. Cat went on to say that the woman’s friend then left a cubicle and said to her, ‘You look like you make music,’ at which point the Go hitmaker thought, ‘I haven’t got anything to say to you,’ willing for her to end the conversation. ‘Yeah, I do,’ she still responded politely, admitting she ‘didn’t care’ when the stranger said she was also a musician, ‘because your friend has irritated me’. ‘Then her friend bellows out from the cubicle, “Oh, you shouldn’t speak to her; she’s bisexual!”,’ Cat added, then revealed the most surprising comment from the fellow clubgoer. ‘She goes, “But she’s sexy, though, isn’t she? She’s so sexy”.’ Cat concluded with her reaction, bringing the story full circle: ‘I said, “There we go. You’re the one having gay panic; you’re the one panicking about having a gay person in the toilet with you. You shouldn’t be in the girls’ toilet with all this fanny. You shouldn’t be in here”.’ The musician came out as a lesbian after initially using the label ‘bisexual’ (Picture: Instagram/@catburns) Her video quickly amassed thousands of likes and gave fans plenty of laughs thanks to Cat’s hilarious storytelling and accents, with Alison Hammond commenting laughing faces. But she was also inundated with support, as commenters branded the woman’s behaviour ‘mortifying’ and hoped for the video to reach her. ‘IMAGINEE speaking to THE Cat Burns like THISSSS nahhhhh 🫢🫢’, commented @lyddiie. ‘She was DEFINITELY feeling you 😂😂😂 (doesn’t make it ok of course)’, said @richiebrave. ‘That made me laugh, it’s like cos we are gay women, we are going to look at EVERY woman like that.. so much ignorance’, wrote @justagirlandhercavapoo. Cat, who was one of three Traitors alongside Jonathan Ross and eventual winner Alan Carr on season 1 of Celebrity Traitors, is open and proud when it comes to her sexuality. Earlier this year, she also voiced that she wants to be a positive figure in the community. ‘It’s nice to add a little bit of love into the world,’ she told Polyester. ‘I’m very aware of how lucky I am as a queer Black woman to have been able to come out to their family and really not be met with any pushback at all.
