SportHorse Racing TRAINERS William Haggas and Ralph Beckett have made a rare racing move – by doubly declaring the same horses for the same races. Haggas and Beckett, two of the biggest names in the sport, will run Lake Forest and Qirat respectively in tomorrow’s Lennox Stakes on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood. Qirat produced one of the biggest shocks in last year’s Sussex Stakes at Goodwood when winning at 150-1 – and will be back to defend his crown this year but only after running in the Lennox as well Credit: PA The Haggas-trained Lake Forest, who is owned by Tony Bloom and football pal Ian McAleavy, will be steered by Cieren Fallon. While Qirat, a shock 150-1 winner of last year’s Sussex Stakes, will be ridden by last Saturday’s King George-winning jockey Colin Keane. Lake Forest is a best-price evens to claim the 7f Group 2 worth more than £100,000 to the winner. While Qirat is as big as 9-2 to extend his winning run to four on the Sussex track and record back-to-back victories after his Group 3 success at York last month. The pair are set to do battle again the very next day, however. Both were declared for Wednesday’s feature Sussex Stakes, where the Juddmonte-owned Qirat will look to defend his crown. Bookies clearly think their best chance of success is in the Tuesday race, though. Up against top three-year-olds in Bow Echo and Gstaad, Lake Forest has been chalked up at 33-1 with Paddy Power for the mile contest. Most read in Horse Racing While Qirat, who was on pacemaker duties last year but simply could not be caught out in front under Richard Kingscote, is as big as 50-1 with the same firm. It could well be the week for horses running twice at the same festival. The Willie Mullins-trained Tounsivator goes in the Galway Connacht Hotel handicap on day one of their week-long bash. Top punter and bookies Johnny Dineen confirmed the horse could also run in Thursday’s Galway Hurdle over 2m, if he comes out of his first assignment in good shape.
