A trainee IPS officer was arrested in Hyderabad after a co-trainee accused him of sexual harassment and assault at the police academy. The case involves serious allegations of stalking, violence and alleged digital blackmail within a premier training institution.A trainee IPS officer accused of sexually harassing a woman co-trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad was arrested on Wednesday, police sources said. They said he was produced before a city court. The case against the 32-year-old officer was registered on July 18 on charges of stalking and sexual harassment. He was questioned by the police on Tuesday in connection with the case.In her complaint, the 30-year-old woman trainee IPS officer alleged that he had been harassing her since June 23 by sending sexually abusive messages on an instant messaging application and making derogatory remarks about her at the academy in the presence of her friends. She also alleged that he falsely accused her of having a sexual relationship with another trainee, pressured her to admit to such a relationship and verbally abused her.She further alleged that on July 9, he wrongfully restrained her, forcibly took her to his room, grabbed her by the hair, attempted to strangle her, held a knife to her neck and prevented her from leaving the room. The complainant also accused him of recording a private video of her without her knowledge or consent and sending it to her husband in an attempt to blackmail her.Police said Attapur police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, sexual harassment, stalking, and words, gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act. After the case was registered, the accused said in a social media post that the complaint and rumours were "baseless."
