Traffic police to set up 15 centres for to help motorists clear pending e-challans

SRINATH The Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) will operate 15 special call centres across the city from September 21 to 30 to help motorists check and clear pending e-challans issued for traffic violations.The initiative has been launched as several motorists are unaware of e-challans generated through systems such as automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and the traffic regulation observation zones system. The police said some motorists also hesitate to open links received from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, suspecting them to be fraudulent.The centres will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the 10-day period. Police personnel will contact motorists and inform them about pending challans, send bulk SMS alerts, and provide details of pending challans and fine amounts to people making inquiries either over the phone or in person.The centres will be located at ICF Annexure police booth in Ayanavaram, Music Academy police booth in Royapettah, Greenways Junction police booth in Abiramapuram, Tower Clock Junction police booth on Anna Salai, Anna Nagar Roundtana, Anna Arch Traffic police booth, Maduravoyal Traffic police station, Madhavaram traffic police station near Madhavaram Roundtana, Flower Bazaar, Washermenpet, Pulianthope, R1 Mambalam, and J2 Adyar police stations, Traffic Mount sub-division campus under the Kathipara flyover, and the ITMS headquarters at the Commissioner of Police’s office in Vepery.Motorists can also check their pending e-challans through the official e-Challan portal or the NextGen e-Challan platform. The pending fines can be paid online through these portals, through Paytm, at post offices, and Tamil Nadu e-Sevai centres. Fines relating to drunk-driving cases can be paid through the court. The police have given motorists a week to verify their pending challans and remit the fines.
