DRIVERS are facing travel chaos this morning with 90-minute delays after a major motorway was forced to close. National Highways have now confirmed that all lanes have reopened. But there are still 90 minute delays and 8 miles of congestion on the approach today, National Highways said. Motorway camera footage shows traffic at a virtual standstill. The closure early this morning had sparked rush hour travel chaos. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible as traffic returns to normal. National Highways said: “On the M62 eastbound there are delays of 90 minutes due to a collision closing 2 lanes (of 3) between J24 Ainley Top Interchange (Huddersfield, Halifax A629) and J25 Clifton Interchange (Brighouse, Dewsbury A644). Due to the damage and the car being an EV the vehicles couldn’t be cleared to the hard shoulder. “Recovery is on scene removing the vehicles. There were no injuries as a result of the collision. “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.” It comes after the M62 was shut in both directions yesterday afternoon after a police-led incident with cops responding to concern for safety of a person on the bridge. West Yorkshire Police said they received a report shortly before 1pm on Sunday of a woman on the wrong side of the railings on a bridge at junction 22.
