Toys and Flowers Cover the Ruins as Radushne Mourns Family Killed by Russian Missile

Residents of Radushne gathered beside the ruins of the Voronov family home on Friday, leaving flowers, children’s drawings and toys at a makeshift memorial for six relatives killed by a Russian ballistic missile. The Thursday strike destroyed the house where 10 members of the family were staying. Among those killed were the parents, Artem and Olena Voronov, and three of their children – Mark, Azariy Ilay and Emilia. The family’s 18-month-old grandson was also in the house at the time of the attack. Neighbors remembered a close and hard-working family whose yard had once been filled with children’s voices. One relative brought a toy for each of the children to the memorial. The family’s dog was reportedly the only living creature recovered from the destroyed property. “The family was wonderful. There was always life there,” neighbor Liudmyla told Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne. She said Olena had returned from visiting an older daughter in Germany only one day before the strike. The family’s eldest son, Ukrainian serviceman Danylo Voronov, was away with his wife when the missile hit. His young son had been staying with his grandparents and was due to return home during the weekend. “I lost everyone: my parents, sisters, brothers and son,” Danylo said after arriving at the ruins. President Volodymyr Zelensky said preliminary findings indicated that Russia used a North Korean ballistic missile in the strike – the first recorded use of such a weapon against Ukraine in months. Ukrainian radar reportedly detected flight paths consistent with North Korean KN-23 or KN-24 missiles. The strike came during a large Russian aerial assault involving 74 missiles and 284 drones launched across Ukraine. Zelensky renewed his appeal for additional Patriot interceptors, the principal Ukrainian defense against ballistic missiles. July 31 was declared a day of mourning in the Kryvyi Rih area.
