Toyota Innova Hycross facelift to launch on November 26, flex-fuel hybrid expected

Toyota Innova Hycross facelift will launch in India on November 26, bringing revised styling and potentially a flex-fuel strong-hybrid powertrain.Toyota Innova HyCross flex fuel hybridNew Delhi,Oct 30, 2026 13:05 ISTToyota is set to introduce the facelifted Innova Hycross in India on November 26, with the upcoming update expected to bring exterior revisions and a potential flex-fuel strong-hybrid powertrain. The latter could be the most significant development, expanding the MPV’s capabilities beyond the petrol and hybrid options currently on offer. The facelift is expected to retain the Hycross’s overall silhouette while introducing a redesigned front end.Flex-fuel hybrid could be the biggest changeThe possibility of a flex-fuel powertrain follows Toyota’s earlier showcase of an Innova Hycross-based strong-hybrid prototype designed to operate on petrol-ethanol blends containing up to 85% ethanol (E85). The prototype used a modified 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor.Accommodating higher ethanol concentrations requires changes to several engine and fuel-system components. Toyota’s showcased prototype featured revised spark plugs and piston rings, an ethanol sensor, an updated fuel pump and filter, and ethanol-compatible materials for the fuel tank and fuel lines. It also incorporated a cold-start system and changes to catalyst programming to address starting and emissions requirements. If the flex-fuel setup makes it to the production-spec facelift, the Innova Hycross could become Toyota’s first flex-fuel passenger vehicle to be sold in India. New front fascia, familiar overall proportionsThe facelift is expected to receive a more prominent visual update at the front. Patent images and test vehicles suggest revised lighting elements and a redesigned grille, including a perforated central section that appears integrated with the bumper. The side profile is likely to remain largely unchanged, preserving the existing MPV’s proportions. Toyota could introduce new alloy wheel designs, while revisions to the rear bumper and tail-lamp detailing may provide further differentiation from the outgoing model.Cabin architecture likely to remain unchangedSpy shots indicate that the updated Innova Hycross will retain much of the current dashboard layout, including the raised centre console, automatic gear selector and door-mounted seat adjustment controls. The infotainment screen was concealed in the test vehicle, leaving the possibility of a revised display or updated software open. Toyota could also introduce new upholstery and additional equipment, although details of the cabin changes remain unconfirmed.Toyota Innova Hycross: Current powertrain optionsThe current model is offered with two 2.0-litre petrol powertrains. The naturally aspirated petrol engine is paired with a CVT, while the strong-hybrid version uses an e-CVT. Their respective ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figures are 16.13 kmpl and 23.24 kmpl. Both powertrains are compatible with E20 fuel. A move to higher ethanol blends would therefore represent a notable expansion of the Hycross’s fuel compatibility, alongside the expected styling updates.Subscribe to Auto Today Magazine - Ends
