Towie’s Freddie Bentley reveals terrifying health crisis that put him in hospital for six weeks, saying ‘I was critical’

TOWIE alum Freddie Bentley has revealed he suffered a horrifying health crisis that left him in the hospital for six weeks. The 28-year-old – who quit the ITV reality show in February – was hospitalised after a boozy holiday in the Dominican Republic. My bile ducts and my liver stopped working properly,” he said on the official Towie podcast, You Alright, Hun? Sign up for the TV newsletter Thank you! “I got jaundice, so I was in hospital for six weeks. A normal liver function level is meant to be, like, 125. Mine was 980. So, wow, I was critical, I was in a really, really bad… wow.” The reality star, who previously appeared on the defunct show The Circle, explained that the illness took hold over the course of several months. I was on holiday in Dominica, you’re drinking at like 10am with your family,” he recalled. “I had to fly home because I went yellow because I was so poorly. I couldn’t hold anything down, both ways. “The doctors were worried. They were like, ‘You’re 24 years of age, your liver shouldn’t be failing.'” Freddie went on: “But what we found out is that I was born with a weak liver, my bile ducts don’t work properly. Most read in TV “It’s actually called primary sclerosing cholangitis. It’s very rare.” Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic liver disease that causes inflammation, scarring, and narrowing of the bile ducts inside and outside the liver, according to the Mayo Clinic. This blockage traps bile, leading to progressive liver damage, cirrhosis, and potential liver failure, with a liver transplant being the only definitive cure. Freddie explained that he has given up alcohol, saying: “So I have to look after my liver now obviously. “So I don’t drink. I have to do everything I can to make sure that [being hospitalised again] doesn’t happen. “I’m actually a nicer person without a drink. I don’t need to have a drink to have a good time.” Freddie quit Towie earlier this year after an emotional cast trip to Vietnam. He later said he left the show after feeling “consumed” and “triggered” by tensions within the cast. “Where I haven’t healed from certain situations in my personal life sometimes I go into a situation with open wounds which makes me bite very quickly,” he said. “I am super real. I think everyone on Towie is real, but I find it hard to switch on and off from it and I let it consume me a little bit.” He then added: “I just need to take time out to focus on myself to manage my emotions, so I am not triggered so quickly as it becomes unhealthy for my mind.” Comment now
