Tourists beware! Mallorca suffers a rampant rise in criminal activity - as offences rise by 10 per cent

Mallorca has faced a significant rise in criminal activity when compared with last yearWhile cyber-crime activity dropped 5.8 per cent, conventional crime increased by 11 per cent to more than 34,000 offences.There was also an increase in sexual offences, which rose 15.2 per cent across the Balearics.Robberies involving violence or threats went up 9.8 per cent to 716, thefts rose 8.8 per cent to 11,802, and vehicle thefts increased too. Other regions also saw notable increases in criminal activity, with the island of Formentera seeing a rise of 7.5 per cent to 331. Ibiza saw a slight increase of 0.4 per cent.Meanwhile, some parts saw a decrease in crime: Menorca saw a drop of 8 per cent. The popular Spanish destination saw an increase of criminal offences of more than 10 per centThere have been many reports in recent months of crime in Mallorca.Earlier this summer, a British woman was abducted and sexually assaulted while walking back to a hotel in Mallorca.Meanwhile, a masseur was accused of sexually assaulting a pregnant British tourist during a massage session at her hotel.Officers had to calm the 30-year-old woman down after being called to the hotel in the resort of Calas de Mallorca on the island's eastern coast and finding her 'highly distressed and crying', back in July.
