Tottenham star Pape Matar Sarr lined up for Galatasaray transfer after tumbling down pecking order

But the ex-Metz man will likely struggle for game-time this term following the arrivals of fellow midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes for a combined £185million. With Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray also in the mix for the two deeper-lying midfield roles, plus Conor Gallagher and James Maddison, Sarr may well find himself down the pecking order. He has only played 87 minutes in pre-season so far and that came in Sunday’s 2-2 friendly draw with Hoffenheim behind closed doors. Sarr joined Spurs from French side Metz in 2021 for around £12m. He has racked up 141 appearances and scored 11 goals for the North Londoners, as well as earning 42 caps for his country. Sarr supplied the cross for Brennan Johnson’s match-winning strike in the 2025 Europa League final in Bilbao, which saw Spurs defeat Manchester United 1-0.
